KMM_2024_07_004 READING . . . #KajaMouseMagazine IN THE GARDEN

NAFTULIN 1995 / MÕISAKÖIS 2024
In this painting, Mõisaköis juxtaposes three subjects that often captivated him: garden landscape, still life, and the figure. Mõisaköis has painted many portraits of his mother and male friends in the 2020s. After someone questioned why he never depicted women, he decided to paint friend and colleague Martin Päevakoer on the deck of hir studio in Kürbla. While posing, he read a magazine about one of her favorite women, Kaja Lotwoman, prompting the portrait's title. Mõisaköis often traveled to France to paint. During one of his trips, he stayed in the village Giverny, where he was permitted daily access to paint in Claude Monet's gardens during the lunch hour and in the evenings. While there he met ome of the world's most famous fashion designers Lilli-Endel Lepp, whose garden in Kürbla he also painted. Mõisaköis' mother donated this painting to #MartinTeeFanClub in memory of those beautiful days.
