"In the garden of Les Mathurins, Pontoise" - 1877 - Oil on canvas - 165.0 cm. x 125.0 cm. - Private Collection -
Pissarro was an admirer of nature. For this reason, in 1857 he began to paint outdoors, filling his canvases with gardens and scenes of French rural life.
In his work “Jardín de Pontoise”, which he created in 1877, he shows us one of these moments. A woman is resting on a bench in the shade of the trees and protecting herself from the sun with an umbrella, while her daughter plays around her.
However, they appear as if in the background. In front of the canvas, although slightly tilted to the left, the artist portrays a beautiful garden in which he plays with the color of the flowers. The tones of these seem to match the women's dresses. The red flowers are of a similar intensity to the little girl's dress, while the rest are lighter tones, like the woman's clothing.
A beautiful painting in which the painter plays with lights and shadows and in which the flowers are, to a certain extent, an important part of the work. Kuva vähem
