Between 1948 and 1965, Toshiro Mifune appeared in 16 films directed by Kurosawa, including landmarks such as Rashomon, Seven Samurai, Throne of Blood, and Yojimbo. During this period, Mifune essentially became the physical embodiment of Kurosawa’s cinema. Kurosawa later said that when he wrote characters, he often imagined them specifically for Mifune’s energy and presence.
