Eisenstein estuvo en Hollywood, antes de llegar a México, con el propósito de hacer una película con Paramount Pictures y de aprender sobre las técnicas del cine sonoro. Ahí, Eisenstein tuvo la oportunidad de conocer al maestro de cine de animación Walt Disney. El cineasta admiraba el trabajo de Disney, particularmente los cortos de ‘Mickey Mouse’ y ‘Silly Symphonies’. La influencia de Disney en la obra gráfica de Eisenstein se puede ver en las escenas fantásticas de estética caricaturesca que prestan mucha atención al movimiento de los personajes. En su ensayo inconcluso “On Disney”, el cineasta escribe: “Joven y con un pequeño bigote. Muy elegante. La elegancia de un bailarín diría yo. Eisenstein went to Hollywood prior to traveling to Mexico with the prospect of making a film with Paramount Pictures and learning from their expertise in sound film. There, Eisenstein had the opportunity to visit the master of cinema Walt Disney. Eisenstein admired Disney’s work, particularly his early ‘Mickey Mouse’ shorts and ‘Silly Symphonies.’ Disney’s influence on Eisenstein’s drawings can be found in the fantastical scenes drawn with a cartoon aesthetic and great attention to how characters move. In Eisenstein’s never finished book ‘On Disney’, he describes Disney as: “Young and with a small mustache. Very elegant. The elegance of a dancer, I’d say.
