☞ Gong Xi Fa Cai!
☞Buttermilk Junction wishes all of our Facebook fans a Happy Chinese New Year!
☞Today is New Year’s Day on the Chinese Lunisolar Calendar, wherein calendar year 4723 begins with the New Moon today, February 17, 2026, the first day of the Year of the Horse, following 4722, the Year of the Snake, which began on January 29, 2025).
☞Chinese New Year on the Lunisolar Calendar always falls during the months of either January or February, each Chinese New Year is represented by one of the twelve creatures of the Chinese Zodiac.
☞The photograph depicts an antique picture-postcard view of three traditional Chinese musicians playing the Suona, the Jinghu, & the Sanxian. The Suona is a woodwind reed instrument similar to the Mediæval-Era Shawm, which is the predecessor of the modern Oboe.
☞In the YouTube video that is posted in the comments below, the 1927 phonograph recording of the “Chinese Break Down” is performed by the Scottdale String Band of Scottdale, Georgia. The “Chinese Breakdown” doesn’t appear to have any real connection to China, but it is an interesting & unusual traditional American Old-Time tune that was used as the basis for the 1937 song “The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down,” which was written by Cliff Friend & Dave Franklin & used as the theme music for the “Looney Tunes” cartoon series produced by Warner Brothers Studios from 1937 to 1969.
