The great and unsurpassed Kurt Cobain was BOTD in 1967 and died in 1994 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, an unfortunate member of the 27 Club. (There has been speculation, revived in the past week based on new evidence, that it was a homicide.) Kurt pioneered the male pop star crossdressing thing, but the difference was that he actually looked good and comfortable and fashionable when he did it, and you could tell he really meant it both spiritually and politically, as opposed to certain queerbaiting contemporary equivalents. I was in New York City on the day Kurt died, and made a t-shirt to express my sadness. Richard Kern happened to photograph me on the same day. RIP Kurt! Oh btw Kurt once said my movie "No Skin Off My Ass" was one of his faves! Cobain used to spray-paint the phrase "God Is Gay" on pickup trucks in the conservative town of Aberdeen to provoke a reaction against anti-gay sentiment
