WASHINGTON, D.C. — A statue showing President Trump holding hands with “best friend” Jeffrey Epstein is now on display on the National Mall.
The Guardian reports it’s unknown who specifically created and financed the statue, but a permit from the National Park Service will allow it to stay on the mall through 8 p.m. Sunday. USA Today reports a group called The Secret Handshake Project is taking credit.
The statue depicts the Trump and late disgraced financier Epstein appearing to frolic while looking at each other and smiling. It’s made of a combination of foam, resin, wood and wire, The Independent reports.
“We celebrate the long-lasting bond between President Donald J. Trump and his ‘closest friend’ Jeffrey Epstein,” a plaque on the statue reads, according to USA Today.
The White House released a statement to The Independent saying “Liberals are free to waste their money however they see fit — but it’s not news that Epstein knew Donald Trump, because Donald Trump kicked Epstein out of his club for being a creep.”
Pressure has increased on lawmakers to release the “Epstein files,” especially after reports showed a birthday note allegedly written by Trump to Epstein.
USA Today reports the statue is the third anti-Trump installation placed in the capital since June by The Secret Handshake Project. The group took responsibility for an 8-foot-tall sculpture of a hand squashing the crown of the Statue of Liberty while making a thumbs-up gesture.
The group also said it created a golden TV that showed images of Trump dancing, including with Epstein, USA Today reports.
