On 22nd September 1954, a visibly seething James Dean begrudgingly escorted starlet Terry Moore to the premiere of the film Sabrina on a studio-arranged date. “In this photograph, one can see that on some level Dean was deeply contemptuous of the image-making process,” Dean’s biographer Paul Alexander reflects in James Dean: Boulevard of Broken Dreams (1994). “But there he was with Moore, escorting her to a movie premiere for no other reason than to get his picture in the newspaper.”
