1958, Richard Avedon~ for LIFE Magazine, this photo recreates Dietrich's iconic role as the cabaret singer from the 1930 film 'The Blue Angel.' This was part of the 'Fabled Enchantresses' series where Monroe posed as legendary actresses of the past.
Marilyn was quite proud of these images, as was Avedon impressed with her ability to manipulate herself for the lens. He was qouted stating the following;
"There was no such person as Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn Monroe was an invention of hers. A genius invention that she created, like an author creates a character. She understood photography, and she also understood what makes a great photograph. She related to it as if she were giving a performance.
