Robert John Thornton (1768 -1837) was a famous botanical illustrator known for his work on Thornton's Temple of Flora, the 3rd part of "New Illustration of the Sexual System of Carolus von Linnaeus". Robert John Thornton himself painted the roses, the other illustrations were created by the eminent English artists. Most of the images were painted by Peter Charles Henderson and Philip Reinagle. These are illustrations from the "Temple of Flora" published in 1812.
