🦋 In European folklore, fairies would sometimes steal human babies and replace them with one of their own, a changeling. Changeling babies might appear sickly or deformed. The kidnapped human babies usually grow into a life of servitude for the fairies but in this version of the folk tale, the fairy king and queen are childless and want a family.
"At that moment a butterfly perched on the bright gold of her sunlit hair, but finding there no flower, flew off again. Without a thought, Catkin went after it."
🐱 A brave little cat rescues his beloved friend from her elfin captors in 'Catkin', 1994 written by Antonia Barber with illustrations by PJ Lynch.
