The video shows 47 prints of Utagawa Hiroshige and 24 of Keisai Eisen, which follow the stations of the central mountain route in Japan, which is called Nakasendō or Kisokaidō. It is one of the two roads that connected the de facto capital of Japan at Edo (modern-day Tokyo) to Kyoto. There were 69 stations (staging-posts) between Edo and Kyoto, crossing through Musashi, Kōzuke, Shinano, Mino and Ōmi provinces with a total distance of about 534 km.
